On April 2nd, there were a 119 entries for the 2014 Moth World Championship, which will be held at Hayling Island Sailing Club from 19th to 25thJuly 2014 . Only a few more boats needed and it will be the largest Worlds ever! The club reckon that there are another 10 boats expected to enter and the guys and girls are coming from all over the world. With the festive season approaching,
all of us tend to look back on the year and also think about the
future. Although it's been a couple of months since the Moth Worlds
in Hawaii, it still feels just like yesterday. 5th overall
was better than I thought and with seven top ten finishes, it was
also very satisfying to show some consistency. I love the Moth Class

Robert Greenhalgh wins 2013 UK Moth National Championship
Absolutely delighted with the win against some great sailors; Chris Rashley, Simon Hiscocks, Mike Lennon, Jason Belben and Tom offer. All these guys are so quick and it was full on. I just love the racing and it was very satisfying to have everything click into place at Weymouth.
I have been trying to put in as much practice Robert Greenhalghhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16039090714919675136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7124234431108422284.post-84414864754929667322013-06-30T17:07:00.000+01:002013-06-30T17:08:04.295+01:00Robert wins UK Moth National Championship!

Brothers Greenhalgh go into battle for Extreme honours
Sibling rivalry might not be good for political careers but in sport, when two fearless champions from the same family, are pitted against each other, the prospects for an almighty ding-dong take on a new dimension.

Seven years ago, Robert skippered the first winner of the Extreme 40 series with Basilica and followed that up with a second place as skipper of TEAMORIGIN. And now he is back as skipper of Team DUQM Oman. The creators of the Extreme 40 took the biggest, fastest sailing boat in the Olympics then made it twice as big and even faster and brakes do not come as standard.

What has been your priority over the winter in the Moth Class?
Working towards the worlds in Hawaii and it would be nice to improve on 19th in my first world’s, it would be good to get a top ten but it should be a tough worlds with a lot of the top Australians, Kiwis and USA guys entering.
I am still on a steep learning curve in the class and this winter I have been trying to do as much Robert Greenhalghhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16039090714919675136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7124234431108422284.post-67463399296248850372012-10-11T13:39:00.001+01:002012-10-11T13:44:12.455+01:00Life after the Extreme

Racing was called off today, due to lack of wind. We started a race and I got a good start but the race was abandoned before we got to the top mark.
I was pretty happy with the performance on the first day but split fleets make the results look a bit better. Tomorrow it looks like they may give us six races. Three in the morning and three in the afternoon.

Since returning home back to Hamble after finishing the
Volvo Ocean Race, I have been getting out in Stokes Bay everyday weather
permitting. Trying to learn how to fly a Moth and it has been a steep learning
curve but I have always loved a challenge!
I fully expect to get humbled in Garda but I will have a
better idea of where I am after the Worlds. One more leg to go!
Well, as expected after
the reach to Azores in 15-22 knots, the wind decreased around the high but it
didn’t really compress the fleet and we fell behind as the leaders extended on
the return leg to L’Orient. But the ride back to L’Orient was pretty special;
building breeze to as high as 45 knots. Very fast wet and wild sailing tempered

It was pretty much as stressful as it gets but taking the gun in Lisbon was a great moment. Watching our massive lead evaporate over the last few days was painful but we knew it would happen and to win by just six minutes was fantastic and perhaps we finally got our share of good luck.

28 May 2012: Atlantic Ocean, 600nm WNW of the Azores.
A resurgent Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing lead the fleet by 90 nm in Leg 7 of the Volvo Ocean Race. After a week of racing, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing's Azzam is in a strong position leading the fleet. Light running conditions are expected for the approach to Portugal, which should suit Azzam. However, the crew are donning thermals and hats for the Robert Greenhalghhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16039090714919675136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7124234431108422284.post-28285552974975369402012-03-25T10:41:00.004+01:002012-03-25T10:53:29.738+01:00The rich get richerUnfortunately we were swallowed up by the pressure ridge yesterday and we are falling even further behind the leaders, which is not a lot of fun really. However, there is plenty to do on board.Seven days of harsh conditions has put a lot of miles on the gear and we are checking and carrying out a lot of maintenance to try to ensure that we don't get any breakages when Azzam loads up with the Robert Greenhalghhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16039090714919675136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7124234431108422284.post-60528988804469615582012-02-09T11:39:00.003+00:002012-02-09T11:45:24.778+00:00Definitely up for the challengeUltimately, it is quite clear from anyone watching that we are a little off the pace. Everbody makes mistakes but it is a lot easier to make good tactical decisions when you have a fast boat. On a positive note we seem to be very good downwind but we have not seen much downwind sailing in this race, we hardly had a spinnaker up for the last two legs. The dismast out of Alicante was a terrible start and the poor results in Leg 2 was difficult to swallow. However, the team has dug deep and been very positive about how to put things right. The whole team has put in a tremendous amount of effort and thought and scoring maximum points for the inshore race in Abu Robert Greenhalghhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16039090714919675136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7124234431108422284.post-39780286100253732262012-01-09T11:19:00.002+00:002012-01-09T11:38:54.756+00:00Horses for CoursesLeg 2 was very different to what people were expecting. Early on we all got stuck against a weather front, which were bumping into for five or six days and we didn’t come out to well because of it.We nearly got through the front a few times but the wind died and the front just sucked us back up again. The Volvo Ocean Race is a test of endurance and in the build up to the race, the team have done very little racing. That is just how it is.
